Godzilla Minus Zero will have its world premiere as the Spotlight Gala at the 64th New York Film Festival.
The world's most renowned kaiju is arriving in New York City once more. Film at Lincoln Center has revealed that Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla Minus Zero will have its world premiere as the Spotlight Gala selection for the 64th New York Film Festival. This debut is scheduled for September 26 at Alice Tully Hall, a little over a month before GKIDS releases the highly anticipated sequel in the United States on November 6.
The NYFF provides this synopsis: “After the impressive reimagining of the classic Godzilla franchise in 2023 with Godzilla Minus One, featuring brilliant, Oscar-winning visuals and emotionally resonant storytelling, director Takashi Yamazaki returns with a highly rewarding sequel. Godzilla Minus Zero takes place in 1949, two years following the chaotic events of Godzilla Minus One, and follows the Shikishima family as they encounter a new disaster. This film is an experience meant for the big screen, showcasing even more remarkable visual effects choreography than its forerunner, Godzilla Minus Zero amplifies the horror while maintaining its post-WWII Japan narrative at a deeply human level. A GKIDS release.”
“It is a genuine privilege to premiere our film to a worldwide audience in such a historic and prestigious venue,” stated director Yamazaki. “I am both humbled and thrilled to witness how Japan's Godzilla can captivate audiences globally, and whether they will connect with what lies beyond that fear.”
“Over 70 years after the original Godzilla film, Takashi Yamazaki continues to show that the franchise still has vitality, returning to its postwar roots to unearth a haunting, primal terror,” commented Dennis Lim, NYFF Artistic Director. “Like its predecessor, Godzilla Minus Zero is a nostalgic blockbuster, highlighting human drama and innovative craftsmanship, and we are eager to celebrate its world premiere as this year’s NYFF Spotlight Gala.”
The 64th New York Film Festival will run from September 25 to October 12, 2026, with passes currently available for purchase.
