Hasbro and Working Title are developing an Action Man movie.
Action Man is set to hit the big screen, as THR reports that Hasbro is partnering with Working Title for a film adaptation of the iconic British toy line. The report indicates that former Marvel Studios executive Jeremy Latcham (The Avengers, Spider-Man: Homecoming) will produce the movie, with fellow Marvel alumni Simon Hatt (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) and Anthony Sellitti (X-Men ’97) tasked with writing the script. The action-comedy is said to be “deeply British, with a respect for action cinema.”
The Action Man toy line was launched in the UK in 1966 by Palitoy and was initially a licensed version of Hasbro's widely popular G.I. Joe line of 12-inch military figures. After being discontinued in 1984 and later acquired by Hasbro, the brand made a comeback in the mid-90s, accompanied by a short-lived animated series that shifted from a military theme to an action-adventure focus, featuring the protagonist battling the villainous Doctor X.
The announcement of the Action Man film comes shortly after Hasbro revealed plans to bring the character back in action figure form as part of the G.I. Joe Classified Series line.
