Dan Stevens will don a suit for the RoboCop series on Prime Video.

      Old Detroit introduces a new Alex Murphy, as Dan Stevens (The Guest, Beauty and the Beast) joins the cast of Prime Video’s Robocop series.

      Officially approved last month, the eight-episode Robocop series from Amazon MGM Studios has been in development for the past couple of years, and Stevens will take over the armor previously worn by Peter Weller in the original Paul Verhoeven film.

      According to a report from Deadline, the series, written by showrunner Peter Ocko (Lodge 49, Pushing Daisies), will revolve around a large technology conglomerate that convinces the city to integrate a powerful robot into its police department—a robot that carries the consciousness of the cherished fallen officer, Alex Murphy.

      Released in 1987, Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop grossed $54 million at the North American box office and is considered a landmark in science fiction cinema. It was followed by two sequels with less success: RoboCop 2 in 1990 and RoboCop 3 in 1993, along with a 2014 reboot featuring Joel Kinnaman that struggled to make an impact.

      Stevens’ next project is a collaboration with his The Guest director Adam Wingard on the super-soldier action thriller Onslaught.
