Catchfly Pictures Introduces American Thread, a Documentary Series Focusing on Local Businesses That Support Communities.
Catchfly Pictures has officially announced the debut of American Thread, a documentary series that highlights local businesses closely connected to their communities, filmed with the craftsmanship and scale of feature films. The inaugural episode, The Matunuck Oysterman, can be viewed for free at americanthread.tv.
Directed and edited by Tim Ringwood and produced by Dan Mecca, co-founder of The Film Stage, this series aims to showcase innovative businesses that not only cultivate a loyal customer base but also serve as economic foundations within their communities. The series strikes a balance between the gritty, hands-on work depicted in Dirty Jobs and the cinematic storytelling style of Chef’s Table.
The Matunuck Oysterman explores the oyster farming industry and the establishment of a restaurant centered around it. The documentary follows Perry Raso, who developed a livelihood and an industry on Rhode Island’s Potter Pond, detailing his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a vital economic player through the lifecycle of a Matunuck oyster. It also highlights a strong work ethic forged through challenges, deep community connections, and the life-altering fire of 2025 that changed everything.
Similar to the businesses featured in each episode, Ringwood and Mecca aim to contribute to every community they showcase. On August 9, they hosted a local screening of The Matunuck Oysterman in Wakefield, R.I., donating half of the ticket sales to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. This is a principle they intend to uphold in every community they visit.
“We are trying something new,” Ringwood stated. “The goal is to foster an engaged audience while also making a positive impact and giving back to the communities we highlight.”
The first episode is currently streaming at americanthread.tv. It's available for free, although a no-cost account is required to watch. Additional episodes are in the works.
