Spider-Man remains in the lead at the box office, whereas The Dog Stars performs poorly.

      Spider-Man: Brand New Day inched closer to the all-time domestic record of The Force Awakens at the weekend box office, while Ridley Scott’s adaptation of The Dog Stars flopped.

      Starting with Disney and 20th Century's The Dog Stars, the film entered the weekend with lukewarm reviews and an $80 million budget, but it underperformed, earning only $8 million domestically and finishing in fifth place.

      The film directed by Ridley Scott was surpassed by the film that refused to fade away, Ketchup Entertainment’s Coyote vs. Acme, which transitioned from a controversial tax write-off by Warner Bros. to a third place opening with $13.5 million at the North American box office.

      Neither of these films could come close to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which maintained its top position for a fifth consecutive week, experiencing a 44% drop and collecting $22.2 million over the weekend. This brings its domestic total to $891 million, making it just $45 million shy of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ nearly decade-old total of $936 million. Spider-Man's global earnings currently amount to $2.332 billion.

      Close behind, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its impressive box office run, generating $14.6 million over the three-day weekend, resulting in a domestic total of $564 million and a global tally of $1.55 billion.
