Unzipped Trailer: Experience the Fashion Scene of the 1990s in a Newly Restored Isaac Mizrahi Documentary

Recently seen in Marty Supreme, Isaac Mizrahi's rise in the fashion design world is receiving renewed attention this fall. Douglas Keeve's documentary Unzipped, which highlights his contributions from the 1990s, includes appearances by Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eartha Kitt, Kate Moss, Liza Minnelli, Sandra Bernhard, Richard Gere, and others. The film has been restored and is set for a theatrical release by Janus Films, starting September 25 at NYC's Film Forum. A trailer has been released ahead of the premiere.

The restoration was carried out by the Sundance Institute and UCLA Film & Television Archive, with funding from Isaac Mizrahi Entertainment. Laboratory services were provided by Roundabout Entertainment, Inc. and Deluxe Media Audio Services.

Here’s the synopsis: “Designer Isaac Mizrahi emerged as a formidable force leading up to his iconic fall 1994 collection, a defining moment in his career that was captured with lively intimacy by Douglas Keeve, Mizrahi’s then-partner. This film serves both as a time capsule of the vibrant, chaotic 1990s—when pop culture and high art intertwined—and as a vérité-style, behind-the-scenes look at the daily struggles and joys of the creative process. This landmark artistic portrait, beautifully filmed by Ellen Kuras and Robert Leacock, goes beyond surface glamor to provide a remarkable insight into the charisma and determination of genius, along with its personal toll.”
