La Bola Negra Tráiler: El Ganador de Cannes de Los Javis Llega a los Cines Este Octubre

The Cannes Film Festival experienced a surprise when La Bola Negra from Los Javis premiered later in the lineup and was quickly acquired by Netflix. The streaming service will begin its release on October 16, with a Netflix premiere set for December 2, marking their longest theatrical window to date. The film features a cast that includes Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Julio Torres, Penélope Cruz, and Glenn Close. The first U.S. trailer has now been released.

The synopsis reads: “La Bola Negra weaves a bold narrative that spans nearly a century of Spanish history, chronicling the lives of three generations of men intimately connected through desire, pain, and love, in this acclaimed film by Cannes-winning directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi.”

In his review, Jan Tracz noted, “The film contributes to a lineage of contemporary cinema that seeks to achieve novelistic storytelling through audiovisual methods. Last year’s Sound of Falling had a similar concept, drawing inspiration from significant modernist authors like Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner to create a thought-provoking stream of consciousness expressed visually rather than through text. In this case, the 'cinema of attractions' resonates with the style found in Mario Vargas Llosa’s 1969 novel Conversation in the Cathedral, with each segment adding depth to the overall narrative. It is up to the audience to determine when and how they will interpret this intricate puzzle.”
