Rhys Ifans is set to join the cast of the For All Mankind spin-off, Star City.
Apple TV+ has announced its initial casting for Star City, the forthcoming prequel and spin-off of its alternate history sci-fi series For All Mankind, featuring Rhys Ifans from House of the Dragon.
Star City, created by Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore, offers a new alt-history perspective on the space race, particularly the Soviet Union's achievement of being the first to land a man on the moon. This series will delve into the lives of cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence agents working within the Soviet space program, highlighting the risks they faced to advance humanity during this pivotal era.
Ifans will portray the Chief Designer for the Soviet Union, acting as the key figure behind their space program in the competition against the United States to reach the moon, which sets the stage for the narrative in For All Mankind.
Nedivi and Wolpert will take on the roles of showrunners for Star City and will executive produce alongside Moore, who will continue to supervise For All Mankind following its renewal for a fifth season last year. The main cast also includes Joel Kinnaman, Wrenn Schmidt, Krys Marshall, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, Toby Kebbell, Tyner Rushing, Daniel Stern, and Svetlana Efremova.
