Physical copies of Rendering Ranger: R² [Rewind] will be available for Playstation, Switch, and PC.
Rendering Ranger: R² was initially launched by Virgin Interactive Entertainment on the Super Famicom in Japan and has since become a rare and highly coveted title among collectors. While this rarity is unlikely to change, gamers who find the exorbitant prices prohibitive will have the opportunity to enjoy a physical edition of Ziggurat’s Rendering Ranger: R² [Rewind] when it is released on PC, PlayStation 4|5, and Nintendo Switch on March 20th.
Upon its original release, Rendering Ranger: R² impressed players with its unique visual style, setting it apart from Rainbow Arts’ other game, Graffiti Man. Its pre-rendered graphics, challenging gameplay, and design pushed the Famicom’s capabilities to the brink. The game became a sensation and is now regarded as one of the priciest SNES games available.
In Rendering Ranger: R² [Rewind], players assume the role of ‘Double R,’ a special forces agent tasked with protecting Earth from a devastating alien invasion. Gamers will navigate through nine side-scrolling platform shooter levels, along with swift horizontal shooter stages. A plethora of aliens await to be defeated, including enormous bosses (derived from pre-rendered 3D models) and an array of upgradable weapons to take them down.
Ziggurat’s revised version includes the previously unreleased PAL version Targa, along with the Japan-exclusive Rendering Ranger: R², the option to save and rewind gameplay, and an optional CRT filter.
The Standard physical edition will come with the game disc/cartridge, a manual, and a controller diagram card, all contained within an appealing case. The PC version will be packaged in a PC Micro Box with a USB stick featuring a DRM-free version of the game. Additionally, an Armageddon Edition will be offered at a higher price point, including a Collector’s Edition box, the game, a reversible 12"x16" poster, a Ranger enamel pin, a commemorative metal coin, and a 3D printed metal helmet keyring.
These physical editions can be pre-ordered from February 14th to March 16th, with the digital release of the game set for March 20th.
