The Hollywood Reporter has announced an exciting collaboration between Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe. According to the outlet, they will star in The Weight, an upcoming historical epic set in Oregon in 1933. The film will be directed by Padraic McKinley, based on an original screenplay by Shelby Gaines, Matthew Chapman, and Matthew Booi, drawing inspiration from a story conceived by Booi and Leo Scherman.

As reported by THR, "Hawke portrays Samuel Murphy, who, following his wife's passing, finds himself in a labor camp overseen by the unscrupulous Clancy (Crowe). Murphy's primary goal is to escape and regain custody of his daughter, Penny, but he soon becomes involved in Clancy's dangerous gold smuggling operation, facing threats from the treacherous wilderness and possible betrayal from his own group."

The production will be a joint effort by Fields Entertainment, Under The Influence, and augenschein Filmproduktion, alongside Construction Film.

This marks another occasion where Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe have appeared together on screen; they previously collaborated in the 2012 film The Way Back, where Hawke played a lead role as a fellow escapee and Crowe featured in a significant supporting role.
