The long-awaited reboot of Red Sonja is set to be released in 2025.
After lying dormant for two years in post-production limbo, the frequently postponed Red Sonja reboot is now poised for a release in 2025. According to Deadline, Signature Entertainment has acquired the rights to the fantasy film from Millennium Media and plans to debut it in U.K. and Irish cinemas later this year. While Millennium had transferred rights to other regions while the film was delayed, this marks the first time Red Sonja has been given a tentative release date since an initial 2024 premiere did not occur.
Inspired by the well-known comic book series created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith, Red Sonja features Matilda Lutz (Revenge) as the fierce warrior, who is charged with assembling a group of unconventional fighters to battle the malevolent Emperor Draygan.
Directed by M.J. Bassett (Silent Hill: Revelation), the cast also includes Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy), Wallis Day (Krypton), Luca Pasqualino (Snowpiercer), Michael Bisping (Den of Thieves), Rhona Mitra (Doomsday), Martyn Ford (Mortal Kombat 2), Ben Radcliffe (Anatomy of a Scandal), Eliza Matengu (Swift Street), Phillip Winchester (Duchess), Veronica Ferres (Crisis), and Trevor Eve (A Discovery of Witches).
When Red Sonja finally reaches theaters, it will mark the character's second appearance on the big screen after the cult classic starring Brigitte Nielsen in 1985.
