10 Unapologetic New Comedies That Don't Mind If You Are Offended
These bold new comedies disregard concerns about offense and challenge the belief that contemporary films shy away from being funny. Indeed, these movies demonstrate that comedy is very much alive.

Bill Burr (writer-director-star) embodies a Gen X father in his 50s who refuses to conform to modern standards of acceptable speech, regardless of the chaos it creates within his evolving family.
Burr takes a shot at an overly pious school administrator with one of the most vulgar terms in English, shares his thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner, and pushes a younger colleague to rap candidly to N.W.A.
While he does learn some important lessons, Old Dads maintains its edgy tone and shows it is unafraid to break recent comedic conventions with some risqué moments—such as featuring exotic dancers in a key scene, simply because.
Old Dads is available for streaming on Netflix.
**Joy Ride (2023)**

Joy Ride, the praised debut from director and co-writer Adele Lim, centers around four friends traveling to China in search of one of their birth mothers.
Some of the standout jokes in this exuberantly explicit ensemble comedy involve a tattoo located on a part of the body we're not permitted to mention.
**Strays (2023)**

Strays tells the R-rated tale of a dog (voiced by Will Ferrell) who gathers a pack to take revenge on his former owner. Critic Peter Rainer of FilmWeek describes it as the “dog movie equivalent of Bad Santa—very crude and vulgar, yet very funny.”
A notable recent Google search about this comedy is: “Is Strays suitable for kids?”
Most likely not.

Another film featuring animals, Cocaine Bear, shamelessly romanticizes drug use among bears while presenting thrilling antics, including attacks on campers and Felicity, a national treasure.
You might question its place on a new comedies list, yet it’s likely to make you laugh. You can definitely appreciate the outrageousness of the storyline: Cocaine Bear is inspired by a true tale but diverges significantly from the actual events.

Director Kristoffer Borgli’s dark Norwegian comedy sharply critiques those who will go to extreme lengths for social media fame—and how these fabricated narratives succeed.
It follows Signe (Kristine Kujath Thorp), who, envious of her boyfriend’s successful art exhibition, pretends to suffer from a rare, disfiguring illness, attracting the attention of Oslo’s elite.
Additionally, fans of Sick of Myself may also enjoy the next social-media satire on our roster.
**Rotting in the Sun (2023)**

A clever, ruthless satire of Hollywood and social media, Rotting in the Sun features director and co-writer Sebastián Silva, who portrays a fictionalized, depressed, drug-influenced, self-destructive version of himself.
After meeting social media influencer Jordan Firstman (also playing a version of himself) at a gay beach, they embark on a reckless journey until Silva eventually distances himself from Firstman due to his perceived superficiality, only to be drawn back into collaboration.
Rotting in the Sun includes enough explicit content to possibly deter some viewers early on, which is okay—it's not for everyone.
**Ricky Stanicky (2024)**

This throwback comedy from director Peter Farrelly faced harsh criticism as he returned to his comedic roots following the Best Picture-winning Green Book. Yes, it’s packed with crude jokes—John Cena portrays an alcoholic Atlantic City actor named Rod whose act consists of self-love song parodies.
However, it’s also among the sweetest films we’ve seen in years, with its heart firmly in the right place. The story revolves around three childhood friends (Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler, and Andrew Santino) grappling with adulthood who create a fictional friend named Ricky Stanicky to evade responsibility.
Through a series of misadventures, they recruit Cena’s Rod to embody Ricky, leading to unexpectedly positive outcomes. We found ourselves laughing a lot and feeling quite joyful afterward.
Notably, despite its silly humor, Ricky Stanicky features a surprisingly tight script and showcases some of the most inclusive casting seen in recent times. Shameless as it may be, it indeed has much to take pride in. (It also claims the shameless accolade for casting Shameless star William H. Macy in a comical role.)
Ricky Stanicky is now available on Amazon Prime.
