The comic book "I Hate This Place" is being adapted into a survival horror video game.
Broken Mirror Games and Skybound Entertainment have unveiled I Hate This Place, an open-world survival horror game inspired by Skybound’s comic book series of the same name, created by writer Kyle Starks and artist Artyom Topilin. This upcoming game is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch towards the end of 2025. A new teaser trailer was shown at this year's Future Game Show, which can be viewed below.
I Hate This Place is an isometric survival horror game where players assume the role of Elena, a young woman who inadvertently awakens a malevolent entity determined to see her dead. Outmatched and relentlessly pursued by this force, players must think quickly and manipulate their surroundings to survive.
As Elena, players will participate in both melee and ranged combat, craft vital survival tools, and prioritize cleverness over brute strength. With a day and night cycle affecting gameplay, players must reach safehouses before nightfall. Most importantly, they must ensure that Elena avoids the Horned Man.
I Hate This Place boasts a retro '80s comic book style characterized by bold, vibrant colors. Each location players explore is designed to convey its own narrative through visuals that blend reality with the nightmarish realm Elena inhabits.
Kyle Starks, the writer of the I Hate This Place comic series, stated: "I love my book I Hate This Place – a labor of horror love with series co-creator and artist Artyom Topilin – so I’m thrilled to see it come to life as a video game! I can’t wait to experience this game and be trapped on the terrible ranch depicted in the book!"
