Quentin Tarantino collaborates with David Fincher and Brad Pitt for a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In numerous ways, the timing of this news being released on April 1st might make it seem like a prank, yet two of the most influential filmmakers of all time are collaborating. For every film enthusiast, from those who grew up in the ’90s to contemporary cinema aficionados, the collaboration between David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino appears surreal. However, it has recently been disclosed that they will partner for a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
The Playlist was the first to report on this film, and The Hollywood Reporter subsequently validated the information. While Tarantino will not direct the film, he will take on screenwriting responsibilities, with Fincher overseeing the direction. A source familiar with the production indicated that shooting could commence as early as this summer, with Netflix allegedly involved.
The project will feature the iconic fictional television character Cliff Booth alongside his devoted stuntman Rick Dalton. Brad Pitt is set to star, and Leonardo DiCaprio is rumored to be reprising his role. Pitt began participating in the project after Tarantino presented him with the script and mentioned finding a director. At that point, Pitt responded, “Depends on who,” leading to Fincher's involvement.
Both Fincher and Tarantino emerged from the new wave of ’90s filmmakers, and Pitt has collaborated with Fincher on Se7en, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and World War Z. This collaboration could prove to be a perfect union in the realm of cinema.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood garnered ten nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, securing two wins, including Best Supporting Actor for Pitt. The film received acclaim from both critics and audiences, although some felt it was somewhat excessive at times. Could the combination of Fincher’s sharp vision and Tarantino’s audacious scripts enhance the incredible potential of this project?
