Magic Farm Trailer: Chloë Sevigny, Alex Wolff, and Simon Rex Navigate Amalia Ulman's Comedy

After her comically dry debut, El Planeta, Amalia Ulman broadens her horizons (and color palette) with her latest work, Magic Farm. Featuring Chloë Sevigny, Simon Rex, Alex Wolff, and Joe Apollonio, the Sundance-premiered film revolves around a film crew that goes to Argentina to profile a local musician, only to find their incompetence has taken them to the wrong country. As they team up with locals to create a viral trend, connections develop amidst a brewing health crisis. MUBI has acquired the film for a theatrical release on April 25, and the first trailer has been unveiled.

Kent M. Wllhelm shared in his review, “I was intrigued by the concept of satirizing ambitious content creators masquerading as journalists, but integrating that into the ensemble cast's storylines poses a challenge for a second feature. The plot tends to get muddled; when there seems to be too much happening, nothing stands out. However, Magic Farm still offers enjoyable moments; notably, Ulman’s unique voice and perspective linger with you after the film ends. It’s refreshing to witness a young director experimenting and exploring new narrative and stylistic avenues.”
