VFX Supervisor Edward Douglas Discusses Oz Perkins' The Monkey - Exclusive Interview
EJ Moreno sits down with Edward Douglas to talk about the visual effects of The Monkey.
Creating the visual aesthetic and style for a project like The Monkey is quite a challenge. Balancing the tone envisioned by Oz Perkins while highlighting some of the more outrageous deaths is a task that can be tedious, known only to those who have tackled it before. Therefore, having a conversation with Edward J. Douglas, the VFX supervisor for Perkins' latest project and a collaborator from their work on Longlegs, was a delight.
In our discussion, we covered their collaboration and some of Douglas's early credits in the film industry, including a notably controversial Uwe Boll film. The Monkey follows twin brothers who, upon discovering a mysterious wind-up monkey, experience a series of shocking deaths that shatter their family. Twenty-five years later, the monkey initiates a new wave of killings, compelling the estranged brothers to face the haunted toy.
The cast of The Monkey includes Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy, with appearances by Adam Scott and Elijah Wood.
