The Kingdom Trailer: Highly Praised Coming-of-Age Cannes Selection Debuts This May
Making its way to theaters a year after its highly acclaimed premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, Julien Colonna’s debut feature The Kingdom is a captivating coming-of-age thriller centered around the Corsican mob, inspired by the director’s own experiences. As it gears up for a May 30 release by Metrograph Pictures, the new trailer and poster have now been unveiled.
Here’s the synopsis: “On the sun-drenched, tranquil island of Corsica in the summer of 1995, the sheltered teenager Lesia is uprooted from her secure life and taken to a secluded villa where her fugitive mafia boss father, Pierre-Paul, is in hiding. Pierre-Paul is a threatening presence, nearly unknown to Lesia, and initially, she feels confined by the secrecy and peril of his world. However, when an assassination attempt triggers a series of violent vendettas, Lesia and Pierre-Paul find themselves on the run together. As they escape, Lesia grows closer to her father, and while navigating the brutal underworld he is immersed in, his desire for vengeance begins to influence her. The Kingdom is a tale about blood: blood that is shed, blood that is pursued, and the blood that connects us.”
