Summer H. Howell is in discussions for the lead role in Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Carrie.
Summer H. Howell is currently the top contender for the lead role in Mike Flanagan’s television adaptation of Carrie. Variety has reported that the young actress is close to finalizing a deal for the series, though "negotiations are still ongoing." This new version of Carrie has reportedly been in the works at Amazon since October.
Howell has experience with horror series, having appeared in Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. She has also starred in other genre films such as Hunter Hunter, Spirit in the Blood, Time Cut, and Harland Manor.
The series is described as a “bold and timely reimagining” of Carrie White’s story (Howell), a misfit high school student who has lived in isolation with her overbearing mother. Following her father’s sudden death, Carrie faces the unfamiliar environment of public high school, a bullying scandal that devastates her community, and the development of mysterious telekinetic abilities.
There were rumors last week suggesting that Milly Shapiro would take on the titular role, but those casting plans appear to have fallen through. Finding the right actor for this iconic Stephen King character is essential, causing production to proceed carefully.
Flanagan is set to write and executive produce Carrie, as well as serve as showrunner and director. Although Amazon has yet to make a formal announcement regarding the series pickup, such an announcement is anticipated soon.
Keep an eye out for updates on the production of Carrie.
