Beetlejuice 3 is on its way, but will Tim Burton be the one directing it?
Beetlejuice made a significant return to popular culture last year with a new sequel directed by Tim Burton. Now, Warner Bros. is seeking more adventures with this spectral character.
In an interview with Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy indicated that additional sequels can be anticipated. When questioned about plans for intellectual properties like A Minecraft Movie and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, De Luca responded, “Imminently. The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”
The original Beetlejuice (1988) earned over $74 million globally against a budget of $15 million, won an Academy Award for Best Makeup, and played a key role in establishing Burton’s career. The latest installment, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, generated around $451 million worldwide, with $294 million from domestic audiences and $157 million internationally.
When Burton was asked about the possibility of a third film by /Film, he said, “Yeah, I mean, they talk, whatever, but if it follows the model now, I’d be making that when I’d be over 100 [years old], and it’s possible, but I don’t know. With medical science these days, I don’t know. But no, I mean, like I said, for me, I wasn’t really personally interested — if you said it to me, I would run the other direction. This is one where it was something that caught my thing. Now, would something else hit? I don’t know. Not right now, because I’m still finishing this one, basically.”
Will the new installment be titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” as fans anticipate? Only time will reveal, so stay tuned to Flickering Myth for further updates.
