Marvel and Toho have announced the event titled "Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe."

Continuing with the current series of crossover one-shots that feature the King of the Monsters facing off against some of its most famous heroes, Marvel Comics and Toho have announced that they will once again join forces this July for a five-part epic event titled Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, penned by writer Gerry Duggan and illustrated by artist Javier Garrón.

In Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, written by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by Javier Garrón, Godzilla will confront the full force of Marvel's superheroes (and villains). The event promises an epic showdown between Godzilla and a Celestial, an earth-shattering clash with the Hulk, and a terrifying symbiote bonding with the King of the Monsters.

“Godzilla was as significant to me as Marvel Comics during my childhood,” Duggan revealed. “My father liked watching baseball on television, and I would hope for rainouts so the NYC channels would air a Godzilla film. When I discovered Godzilla had featured in the Marvel Universe, I obsessively collected every issue. I feel incredibly fortunate to contribute to the tradition of Godzilla rampaging through the Marvel Universe. This is going to be the biggest event of the summer, and everyone is getting involved. Javier Garrón is creating the finest work of his career, and this comic will be unforgettable. Prepare to run for your life this July!”

“It is—pardon the pun—a monumental opportunity to collaborate again with Gerry, not only one of the best writers in comics but also the only person who can do this story justice with his bold, wild, incredibly humorous, and epic writing,” added Garrón. “Unleashing none other than the King of the Monsters within the Marvel Universe means a great deal to me, and it’s everything a creator could wish for in a comic. The sheer scale! The cast—everyone! The destruction—everything! It’s an unrestricted conflict, and I’m thoroughly enjoying creating chaos with Gerry and the rest of the team.”

“Godzilla has always been a relentless force of nature, and battling the icons of the Marvel Universe is an ideal way to commemorate 70 years of the King of Monsters,” stated Kristin Parcell, General Manager of Toho International. “Our ongoing collaboration with Marvel, which brings Godzilla into the expansive Marvel Universe, ensures an unparalleled, electrifying experience for fans of both legendary franchises.”

A previously dormant Godzilla has been fiercely awakened and is beginning to carve out a path of destruction as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes unite in an attempt to halt its catastrophic rampage! However, when their combined efforts fail to curb the Bringer of Destruction, the heroes must resort to extraordinary measures to try and take down Godzilla – including aligning with Earth’s most cunning villains! But will this be sufficient to stop Godzilla as it tears through the Marvel Universe and into the Dark Dimension and other realms? Additionally, what is the connection between the King of the Monsters and the mysterious metal, Vibranium, and what implications does this have for Wakanda? Faced with an unstoppable force of nature, the Marvel Universe must unite like never before in this earth-shaking battle for survival.

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #1 will be available for purchase on July 16th.
