Warner Bros. is set to remake The Bodyguard, with Sam Wrench, director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, attached to the project.
Are we prepared to revisit the impact of The Bodyguard? For those of us who still frequently listen to the soundtrack, it may be difficult to accept that a cinematic remake is in the works.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is planning to refresh this project, which propelled singer Whitney Houston to new heights. This information was disclosed during an interview with Warner Bros. co-film chiefs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.
The outlet indicates that Sam Wrench, director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, will be in charge of a script written by Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams. Casting for this new version is currently in progress, with reports suggesting that Swift is a contender for a role.
The 1992 film The Bodyguard features former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner), who is hired to safeguard a renowned singer, Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston), from a stalker. As the threats escalate, the two navigate a complicated romantic relationship. Mick Jackson directed the classic film, which was scripted by Lawrence Kasdan.
The film earned $411 million at the global box office, received two Oscar nominations, and launched one of the most successful movie soundtracks in history. The soundtrack, led by Whitney Houston, featured hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Queen of the Night,” and the Oscar-nominated tracks “Run to You” and “I Have Nothing.”
