Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis is being adapted into a graphic novel.
Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project, Megalopolis, did not perform well at the box office after its release last year. However, the iconic director is now collaborating with Abrams ComicArts on a graphic novel adaptation, which is scheduled to be released in October by writer Chris Ryall and Eisner-winning artist Jacob Phillips.
“I was happy to hand over the concept of a graphic novel to the capable Chris Ryall, with the understanding that, while it was inspired by my film Megalopolis, it didn’t have to be confined to it,” says Francis Ford Coppola. “I envisioned the graphic novel carving its own path, featuring its own artists and writer, making it a sibling to the film instead of merely a reflection. I believe Chris, Jacob Phillips, and the team at Abrams ComicArts have achieved that. It reinforces my belief that art should never be limited but rather serve as a parallel expression, adding to the offerings we can provide to our patrons, audiences, and readers.”
“Adapting Francis Ford Coppola’s visionary Megalopolis has been an exhilarating creative experience,” shares writer Chris Ryall. “Coppola’s storytelling challenged and inspired me at every turn, and working with Jacob Phillips added new layers to the story. Together with Abrams ComicArts, we’ve crafted something that both respects and expands upon the universe of the original film.”
