The Sixth Doctor journeys through the Cosmos alongside Mrs. Clarke in the latest Doctor Who audio drama box set.
Big Finish Productions has released today The Sixth Doctor Adventures: The Cosmos and Mrs Clarke, an all-new full-cast audio drama box set. This set, available on the Big Finish website, includes three fresh adventures featuring the Sixth Doctor (portrayed by Colin Baker) and his latest companion, Mrs Constance Clarke (Miranda Raison), who is a member of the Women’s Royal Naval Service that he encountered during World War II in England.
Listeners will be kept on the edge of their seats as the Doctor and his companion face old foes and meet familiar faces on alien planets and in thirteenth-century Baghdad.
The three new adventures are as follows:
In ‘The Story Demon’ by Julian Richards, the duo finds themselves on a forest planet where human settlers are plagued by fear of the Birnamen, who they allege attack their settlements nightly. However, is it truly the Birnamen who are culpable, or is there a connection to the ‘Story Demon,’ the hollow shell of a well-known alien that they use to amuse their children?
In ‘The Key to Many Worlds’ by Paul Magrs, the TARDIS lands in thirteenth-century Baghdad, where the travelers encounter an elderly Marco Polo tasked with returning an enchantress to the Doge’s palace in Venice. By the time the Doctor realizes that this enigmatic enchantress is the cunning Iris Wildthyme, he finds himself ensnared in her body-swapping scheme. As the Doctor is compelled to traverse the desert in Iris’s form, can Mrs. Clarke come to his rescue?
Lastly, in ‘Inconstancy’ by Ian Potter, the Doctor and Mrs. Clarke arrive on the strictly regulated colony world of Hoi. When the Doctor is imprisoned and sent to the forbidden zone for ‘re-education,’ Mrs. Clarke uncovers an amorphous entity that wishes her to turn it into an instrument of her will. Eager to save the Doctor from an uncertain fate, she consents, but what consequences await Hoi when a swarm of wild Mrs. Clarkes descends upon it?
This box set also showcases the vocal talents of Nicholas Briggs, Terry Molloy as Marco Polo, Katy Manning as Iris Wildthyme, along with Anthony Townsend, Carly Day, Cameron Johnson, Dominic Vulliamy, Oliver Senton, Lara Lemon, and Vivienne Rochester.
Colin Baker remarked, “The relationship between the Doctor and Constance is a delightful one. She’s a sophisticated lady. When the Doctor discusses Shakespeare, art, and music, she understands him. Some of the other companions fail to grasp what he means – they are philistines! They aren't just a Doctor and companion; they are friends.”
Doctor Who: The Sixth Doctor Adventures – The Cosmos and Mrs Clarke is now available for purchase at £19.99 for a download or £24.99 for a limited collector’s edition box set. Additionally, a second box set of Sixth Doctor Adventures is set to be released later this year and can be pre-ordered as part of a bundle for £38 for the download and £47 for the limited collector’s edition box sets.
