CBS has officially given the green light to the Kayce Dutton Yellowstone spin-off, titled Y: Marshals.

CBS has officially given the green light to the Kayce Dutton Yellowstone spin-off, titled Y: Marshals.

In March, it was announced that a new potential spin-off of Yellowstone centered around Kayce Dutton was in the early development stages. It has now been confirmed that CBS has officially approved Y: Marshals as part of its midseason lineup.

Currently using the working title Y: Marshals, the series will feature Luke Grimes’ Kayce, who "combines his cowboy and Navy SEAL skills to deliver justice in Montana, where he and his team must navigate the challenges of family, duty, and the significant psychological toll associated with serving as the last line of defense in the ongoing fight against violence in the area."

Unlike Yellowstone, which aired on MTV and Paramount+, Y: Marshals will be broadcast on CBS, with Spencer Hudnut (SEAL Team) acting as showrunner.

In the Yellowstone series finale, we last saw Kayce Dutton having successfully sold his family's land to Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation to protect the land and save his father's cherished ranch from industrial development. He, his wife Monica, and their son Tate continue to live on the land in the home they built as part of their agreement with Rainwater.

As of now, Grimes is the only cast member from Yellowstone confirmed to star in the spin-off. It remains unclear whether Kelsey Asbille and Brecken Merrill will return as Monica and Tate Dutton or if Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty as Rainwater's assistant Mo will appear as well. Meanwhile, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s characters, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, are set to have their own spin-off series on Paramount+.

Y: Marshals will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, with Taylor Sheridan and David C. Glasser serving as executive producers for 101 Studios.
