The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping includes Lili Taylor in the role of Mags.
It appears that Lionsgate is not finished announcing new cast members for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Just hours after revealing that Maya Hawke and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will portray Wiress and Beetee, Deadline has now disclosed that Lili Taylor (Outer Range) will take on the role of the beloved victor and mentor Mags.
First introduced in Catching Fire, Mags is the oldest victor, having won the 11th Hunger Games for District 4. Renowned for her kindness, she acted as a maternal figure for fellow District 4 victors Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta, as well as their mentor. Although she became mute, her age and silence did not diminish her abilities; she played a vital role in the burgeoning rebellion against President Snow and the efforts to rescue Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. In the film adaptation, she was portrayed by Lynn Cohen.
Published in March by Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping brings fans back to the 50th anniversary of the Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell, during which the popular Haymitch Abernathy was chosen as one of District 12’s four tributes to compete and emerged victorious. He later served as a mentor to Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark nearly 25 years later in their own Games.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping features Joseph Zada (Invisible Boys) as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Lili Taylor as Mags.
Francis Lawrence returns to direct Sunrise on the Reaping after helming every Hunger Games film since Catching Fire, while the script is written by original Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set to be released on November 20, 2026. Ricky Church – Follow me on Bluesky for more movie updates and discussions.
