A sequel to Spring Breakers titled Salvation Mountain has been announced, featuring Bella Thorne and others.
Deadline has reported that a sequel to Harmony Korine's 2012 cult film Spring Breakers is in development, with original producers Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner reuniting for Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain.
This new film, which is a standalone project, will be directed by Matthew Bright (Freeway) and will feature Bella Thorne (The Babysitter) alongside Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), Ariel Martin (Zombies 2), and True Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem).
The four actresses will portray rebellious Gen Z girls embarking on a spring break road trip, but when their adventure spirals out of control, they are compelled to escape the chaos they have caused. The project is currently being presented to potential buyers at Cannes, with Capture—a collaboration between Capstone Global and Signature Entertainment—providing financing and managing sales.
“We’re excited to collaborate with Christian and Capture on ‘Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain’ and eager to continue exploring bold, innovative stories inspired by that wild, dreamlike experience of youth,” stated Hanley and Gertner. “The longing for spring break to last forever is something we’ve always cherished.”
Harmony Korine’s original Spring Breakers featured Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine as four college students who fall under the influence of James Franco's drug dealer, diving into a world of crime and indulgence during spring break.
Another sequel, titled Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, was in development in 2014, along with a TV spinoff in 2017, but both projects were eventually shelved.
