Elle Fanning plays the role of young Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

      The upcoming prequel from Lionsgate, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, will feature a younger version of a familiar character, with Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown) portraying Effie Trinket, a role previously played by Elizabeth Banks in the original movies. Effie served as an escort for the tributes from District 12, randomly selecting their names and accompanying them to the Capitol, where she assisted in preparing them for the media spotlight before the Hunger Games. In Sunrise on the Reaping, we will see her starting in this role as she teams up with Haymitch Abernathy and others from District 12 in the Capitol.

      Released in March by Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping brings fans back to the 50th anniversary of the Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, during which the beloved Haymitch Abernathy was selected as one of District 12’s four tributes and won, later going on to mentor Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark nearly 25 years later in their own Games.

      Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping features Joseph Zada (Invisible Boys) as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons (Civil War) as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Mufasa: The Lion King) as Beetee, Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) as Wiress, Lili Taylor (Outer Range) as Mags, Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) as President Snow, and Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown) as Effie Trinket.

      The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set to be released on November 20th, 2026.
