Daniela Forever Trailer: Nacho Vigalando, known for Timecrimes and Colossal, is back with a new sci-fi story.
After spending a significant portion of the last decade working in television, Nacho Vigalondo, known for directing Timecrimes, made his return to the festival circuit last year with his first feature film since 2016's Colossal. Daniela Forever, which debuted at TIFF, features Henry Golding, Beatrice Grannò, Aura Garrido, Rubén Ochandiano, and Nathalie Poza in a science fiction narrative centered around love and loss. Set to hit theaters on July 11, the first trailer has been released by Well Go USA.
Here’s the summary: “After losing his girlfriend Daniela, Nicolás is engulfed in grief. He finds a ray of hope when he is invited to take part in an innovative sleep therapy that mimics reality. However, as the lines between dreams and memories blur, he must face what healing truly entails—and whether he is prepared to let go. From the visionary filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo (Colossal), Daniela Forever embarks on a sci-fi exploration of love, loss, and illusion.”
In his review, Jared Mobarak commented, “This isn’t a love story. It’s a nightmare. Not for Nicolás, but for Daniela. Well, not for her either––she’ll never remember what he’s doing to alter who she was to fit his current desires. So, in reality, it’s a nightmare for us. He’s a character easy to dislike, and you will. When she becomes confused, he instructs her to forget the conversation. When she starts to exist outside his line of sight, he demands to know where she has been. He keeps convincing himself that this dream world can replace reality, but we understand its true purpose is to keep his Daniela trapped in time. He’s effectively killing her with every selfish demand.”
