NYC Weekend Viewing: Hatari! on IB Technicolor

      NYC Weekend Watch is our weekly summary of repertory screenings.

      Roxy Cinema is showcasing an IB Technicolor print of Howard Hawks' Hatari! this Friday and Sunday, with Friday also featuring Mad Max: Fury Road on 35mm and Agnès Varda’s Lions Love (…and Lies). John Ford’s The Grapes of Wrath and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan will be screened on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

      BAM has a new restoration of The Sealed Soil premiering (check out our trailer debut).

      Museum of the Moving Image will screen Cassavetes’ Gloria on Saturday and Sunday. Raiders of the Lost Ark along with prints of Hooper and Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior are part of the “See It Big: Stunts!” series. Troma’s Curse of the Weredeer is scheduled for Saturday, and films by Nadia Shahib will be shown on Sunday.

      IFC Center continues with a 40th-anniversary restoration of Ran; Before Sunrise and Goodfellas are playing daily, while late-night screenings include Children of Men, To Live and Die in L.A., Brain Damage, Audition, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

      Japan Society will wrap up the Mikio Naruse retrospective.

      Paris Theater is in the midst of an extensive Hitchcock series.

      Museum of Modern Art is presenting films by Carolee Schneemann, Beth B, and others in the Queer and Uncensored program.

      Film Forum starts a 4K restoration of Shall We Dance?, featuring Masayuki Suo’s version. The new 35mm print of 8½ and a 4K restoration of The Apartment are ongoing, while Astaire and Rogers’ Shall We Dance will screen on 35mm this Sunday.

      Nitehawk Cinema will showcase Heavenly Bodies along with a print of Batman Begins early on Saturday and Sunday.

      Anthology Film Archives will screen works by von Sternberg, Milius, Melville, and others in a Richard Foreman series.

      Metrograph is offering Matador, The Insider, Gimme Shelter, The French Lieutenant’s Woman, My Neighbor Totoro, and The Matrix on 35mm. Volver a Carmen and a Charlotte Zwerin series are launching, while retrospectives on Glauber Rocha, Freddie Francis, Guided By Animals, The Time That Remains, Scenes from the End of History, and a Syd Mead series continue.
