Exclusive Trailer for 7 Walks with Mark Brown Offers a Heartfelt Glimpse into Normandy's Flora.
One of the most charming titles I encountered at last year's New York Film Festival was the serene and refreshing documentary 7 Walks with Mark Brown, directed by Pierre Creton and Vincent Barré. The film takes viewers on seven walks with paleobotanist Mark Brown through the flora of Normandy, featuring a revitalizing formal change in the latter half that is best experienced firsthand. Several Futures has acquired the film for a U.S. release, set to begin on June 20 at BAM in New York City. We are pleased to exclusively unveil the new trailer and poster ahead of its release.
The synopsis states: “With a small crew in tow, Creton and Barré accompany paleobotanist Mark Brown to seven different sites in Normandy as he searches for native plants suitable for creating an ancient garden and shares, with the affectionate care of a true expert, insights into the etymology, beauty, and scientific qualities of the local flora.”
In collaboration with Creton and Barré, the release will also feature a retrospective at BAM showcasing the artistic duo's work, titled Erotic Nature: The Films of Pierre Creton & Vincent Barré. This will include five feature films: A Prince (2024), a gay erotic coming-of-age drama spanning generations; A Beautiful Summer (2019), a subtly engaging doc-fiction hybrid that illustrates the daily challenges faced by agricultural workers; Go, Toto! (2017), a tender narrative about belonging, rural gay life, physical work, and aging bodies; Maniquerville (2010), a documentary that follows renowned French actress Françoise Lebrun as she forms a unique connection while visiting the Maniquerville gerontology center to read Proust to the residents; and Secteur 545 (2005), a documentary portrait of rural life, plus two short film programs.
