Jon Bernthal's The Punisher is set to make his debut in an MCU film with Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Welcome back to the big screen, Frank Castle.
Although Jon Bernthal's Punisher has made a notable impact in the Daredevil series, including the recent Disney+ show Daredevil: Born Again, it has been a while since we saw a film adaptation of the vigilante. This is set to change with his appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Reports have emerged that Bernthal is joining the upcoming Spider-Man film, which will feature Tom Holland reprising his role. Additionally, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are officially returning as MJ and Ned, respectively, while Sadie Sink from Stranger Things has been cast in a currently undisclosed role.
The news of Bernthal's inclusion in Spider-Man is something fans have anticipated due to the longstanding connection between Punisher and the Webslinger. Frank Castle first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129, titled “The Punisher Strikes Twice!” which was published in 1974. The two characters have been paired together numerous times since, spanning comics, animated series, and video games.
Having first portrayed the character in Netflix's Marvel series, Jon Bernthal made his return as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again, and he is also set to star and co-write a special Punisher presentation for Disney+, which is expected to premiere in 2026.
Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the new Spider-Man film, which is scheduled to begin production this summer, aiming for a release on July 31, 2026.
