Avatar: The Gap Year - Tipping Point series set to debut in October.

As we look forward to the release of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash this December, Dark Horse Comics is bringing us back to Pandora with Avatar: The Gap Year – Tipping Point, a new five-issue comic series by writer Ethan Sacks and artist Salvatore Porcaro, which takes place between the original Avatar and its 2022 sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water.

Ethan Sacks shared, “As a fan of James Cameron and his films since the Terminator captured my imagination at 11, contributing to this saga has been one of the greatest honors of my career. The fact that this narrative is part of the official canon linking Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water makes it even more significant. It’s a heartfelt endeavor by everyone involved, and that enthusiasm is evident on every page and in every panel.”

Artist Salvatore Porcaro added, “It's truly an honor to illustrate this remarkable series, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. This story is packed with emotion, intriguing characters, and surprising twists: working on it presents both a challenging stimulation and immense satisfaction. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do when illustrating it.”

Mike Richardson, founder and CEO of Dark Horse, stated, “Dark Horse has a longstanding relationship with film legend Jim Cameron, and we continue that partnership with Avatar: The Gap Year – Tipping Point. With Ethan’s remarkable storytelling combined with James Cameron’s vision and immersive world-building, these new tales are undeniably astonishing.”

Having defended their homeland of Pandora and driven the RDA back to Earth nearly fifteen years ago, the Na’vi returned to a life of peace. Former Marine Jake Sully, now embraced as Na’vi in an Avatar body, has begun a family with Neytiri. Although over a decade of tranquility has passed, Jake senses that the RDA's intentions toward Pandora are not finished. His suspicions prove true as they return with renewed strength. With his adopted kin and children at risk, Jake must once again lead the Na’vi into battle, now facing greater firepower and advanced weaponry, along with new adversaries equally determined to fight for their cause.

Avatar: The Gap Year – Tipping Point #1 is scheduled for release on October 22, 2025.
