Roofman Trailer: Channing Tatum Lives a Dual Existence in Derek Cianfrance’s Crime Comedy
It has been almost ten years since the last feature film from Derek Cianfrance, director of Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines. However, he is making his return this year with what appears to be his most crowd-pleasing project yet. Roofman, starring Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, Jimmy O. Yang, and Peter Dinklage, is scheduled for release on October 10, and the first trailer has now been unveiled.
Here’s the synopsis: “Based on an astonishing true story, Roofman centers on Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum), a former Army Ranger and struggling father who resorts to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname Roofman. After his escape from prison, he secretly resides in a Toys “R” Us for six months, living undetected while plotting his next move. However, when he becomes romantically involved with Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), a divorced mother captivated by his charm, his double life starts to unravel, leading to a thrilling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past catches up with him.”
“Derek wanted me to really break through the roof,” Tatum shared with EW. “In many movies, there’s a tendency to eliminate every little unnecessary moment to make room for more story or action. But Derek appreciates those in-between moments, like struggling with getting a shingle off the roof. It’s all about the struggle. He doesn’t want it to be neat and meticulously planned where it looks too easy.”
