Aaron Sorkin to Direct The Social Network Sequel

Is this our generation’s The Two Jakes? That’s the immediate thought, but if David Fincher is (creatively speaking) akin to the modern Polanski, then Aaron Sorkin might not even be as talented a director as Jack Nicholson. Despite these comparisons being likely considered, Deadline reports that the iconic screenwriter and somewhat less iconic director is set to direct The Social Network Part II—less a direct sequel and more a different direction, based on the Wall Street Journal’s The Facebook Files, a significant exposé on Mark Zuckerberg’s empire and its impacts (January 6, collective mental decline, body-image issues) since its inception.

It’s assumed that Scott Rudin and Kevin Spacey won’t be returning to produce, and casting details remain unclear. Nevertheless, imagining a Social Network sequel without Mark Zuckerberg seems difficult, and the thought of someone other than Jesse Eisenberg portraying him (in the Lost Highway sense) is intriguing, though possibly improbable. With Sony on board to produce, one should expect movements on this project to commence soon.

Aaron Sorkin to Direct The Social Network Sequel

The Two Jakes of our generation? That’s the thought that comes to mind, but if David Fincher is (creatively speaking) akin to a contemporary Polanski, I fear that Aaron Sorkin may not even match Jack Nicholson’s directing skills. Although these comparisons have likely been considered, Deadline reports that the renowned screenwriter and not-so-renowned director is set to take the helm.
