All may not be hopeless for Luca Guadagnino's Sgt. Rock film for DC.
If you were among those eagerly anticipating Luca Guadagnino’s debut in the superhero genre but were disheartened by the news of Sgt. Rock's possible cancellation, don't lose hope just yet.
It appears the Sgt. Rock project isn't entirely off the table; it's currently facing a production delay to concentrate on the creative aspects. James Gunn, head of DC Studios, recently spoke with EW and hinted that the film may still proceed.
“I feel like we’re in a pretty good place. We’re still moving forward, but it’s not going to be… What would Peter [Safran] want me to say here? … So it’s still moving forward, but, yeah, right now it wasn’t exactly where I wanted it to be creatively, and so it needs to change a little bit.”
While few details about the film have been confirmed, rumors suggest the plot would revolve around a race to locate the mystical Spear of Destiny before it falls into Nazi hands. The character of Sgt. Rock has previously appeared in the DCU, with a flashback featured in the Creature Commandos episode “Cheers to the Tin Man,” voiced by Maury Sterling.
The film would have starred Colin Farrell as the lead WWII hero, alongside Jeremy Allen White, Mike Faist, and David Jonsson in supporting roles. Justin Kuritzkes wrote the script, with composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross also involved. Production was originally slated to begin this July.
