Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden are set to star in the upcoming Netflix drama Trinity.

Netflix is creating a new drama thriller series called Trinity, from Bodyguard creator Jed Mercurio, featuring Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) in lead roles.

Trinity tells the story of “a brave female naval officer who becomes entangled with the seemingly charming Secretary of Defense, only to uncover that he may be at the center of a perilous conspiracy.”

Mbatha-Raw will portray Commander Katherine Decker, who is the second-in-command on the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine known as one of the most lethal weapons on the planet. On the other hand, Madden will take on the role of Secretary of Defense Webb Preston; his tech-savvy background sets him apart from typical politicians, as his innovation and drive are viewed as threats in several ways.

Mercurio will act as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer of the series, reuniting him with Madden after their collaboration on Bodyguard, where Madden played an army veteran and police sergeant tasked with protecting the Home Secretary.

Mbatha-Raw is recognized for her roles in the Marvel Disney+ series Loki, The Morning Show, and currently stars in Apple TV+’s psychological thriller series Surface.

Executive producers for Trinity include Jimmy Mulville from Hat Trick Mercurio and Wendy Mericle. Michael Cuesta will direct and serve as an executive producer for the first and second episodes of the series, which is produced by 20th Television.
