
Apple TV+ has renewed the sci-fi series Murderbot, starring Alexander Skarsgard, before the conclusion of its first season.
Fans of Apple TV+’s sci-fi series Murderbot can rest easy about the season finale tomorrow, as the streaming service has announced a renewal for a second season of the Alexander Skarsgård-starring series.
Based on the novels by Martha Wells and developed by Chris and Paul Weitz, the show features Skarsgård as an advanced security robot that goes AWOL in search of the meaning of life. Skarsgård serves as an executive producer alongside the Weitz brothers.
“We’re incredibly thankful for the positive response Murderbot has received and are thrilled to return to Martha Wells’ universe to collaborate once again with Alexander, Apple, CBS Studios, and the entire team,” said Chris and Paul Weitz.
“Chris, Paul, Alexander, and the whole Murderbot team have crafted a uniquely original, compelling, humorous, and vibrant adaptation that has captured audiences’ imaginations everywhere. We’re excited to reveal what’s next for Murderbot and, of course, ‘Sanctuary Moon’ in season two,” stated Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+.
The season finale, titled ‘The Perimeter’, is set to premiere tomorrow (Friday, July 11th).
“In a technologically advanced future, a rogue security robot (Alexander Skarsgård) secretly attains free will. To remain concealed, it reluctantly embarks on a new mission to protect scientists on a perilous planet…despite its desire to binge-watch soap operas.”
Murderbot features a cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Jennifer Sendaula, Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski.
