Zombie Tales: Complete Collection - Review of the Comic Book

Andrew Newton reviews Zombie Tales: Complete Collection from Boom! Studios…

Boom Studios’ Zombie Tales: Complete Collection is a substantial anthology featuring over 40 stories set in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. While that may seem like a lot of undead content, the strength of this collection lies in its diversity, both in narrative and artistic expression.

There are numerous stories designed to resonate with a broad audience. Some narratives are moving and uplifting, while others can be quite devastating. A few even embrace the bizarre, creatively twisting typical zombie tropes and experimenting with unconventional ideas. The writers demonstrate a genuine spirit of experimentation throughout this anthology, which frequently yields successful results.

The artwork also showcases a wide array of styles. Some tales illustrate smooth and intricate art, while others exhibit a more raw and expressive approach. This variation in artistic style enhances each story's uniqueness and keeps the collection feeling vibrant and dynamic. Despite the overlapping themes common to zombie narratives, the distinct artistic styles ensure that no two stories feel alike.

I particularly appreciated how much character and emotion these short stories managed to convey within such limited space. Each story provides glimpses of well-crafted worlds and fully realized characters, often within just a handful of pages. As you read, it's evident that many of the writers were eager to explore the boundaries of zombie fiction, all while maintaining a focus on the underlying horror.

If you’re looking for a straightforward, singular narrative, this comic might not meet your expectations. However, if you enjoy your zombie fiction filled with creativity and the occasional emotional punch, Zombie Tales certainly delivers. It's an excellent choice for horror enthusiasts who value both heart and brains in their zombie stories.

Rating: 8/10 – This collection of zombie tales will make you appreciate being alive
