Exclusive Trailer for Megan Griffiths' Year of the Fox Features a Teenager Dealing with Privilege and Predation.

Following her well-received films I’ll Show You Mine, Lucky Them, Eden, and Sadie, filmmaker Megan Griffiths returned this year with Year of the Fox, a script by Eliza Flug. The drama, featuring Sarah Jeffery, Jane Adams, Jake Weber, Lexi Simonsen, and Balthazar Getty, portrays a teenager navigating privilege and predation in the elite party scene of 1990s Aspen, all while dealing with her adoptive parents' contentious divorce. The story connects to the present, drawing from Flug’s upbringing in Aspen, where she encountered individuals like Jeffrey Epstein, who inspired the character portrayed by Balthazar Getty.

As Year of the Fox screens in the writer-director’s hometown of Seattle and in Portland, it will debut in Los Angeles at Laemmle NoHo on August 1, released by Monument Releasing, with a nationwide digital release following on August 19. In anticipation of the rollout, we are excited to exclusively present the trailer and the poster, which is beautifully illustrated by Bernice Ho.

Here’s the synopsis: “Set in the hallowed atmosphere of 1990s Aspen, teenage Ivy (Sarah Jeffery, The Six Triple Eight) struggles with her budding sexuality amid the emotional repercussions of her parents’ divorce. When her father introduces her to the elite party culture, Ivy attracts the attention of a wealthy and predatory figure, leading her and her friends to navigate rules they have not established and do not fully comprehend. As illusions fade and role models fail to meet expectations, Ivy must decide whether to follow in the footsteps of her peers and the women before her or to carve her own path.”

“Year of the Fox is set in 1997, and the young women at the heart of our film are living by the standards of that time,” the director stated. “Their experiences and responses are influenced by what they have observed being accepted and praised by those around them. An outsider’s perspective can illuminate these issues, and it may require distance, time, and pain to grasp their significance. This narrative delves into the power and peril of exploring one’s sexuality as a woman in our society, the hazards of allowing influential men to determine who you ought to be, and the liberation that can come from searching for those answers within yourself.”
