Emulsion Episode 12 – Abel Ferrara discusses Turn in the Wound.
You would need to struggle significantly with interviews, or even just conversations, to not gain insights from Abel Ferrara, who embodies a charming yet combative demeanor, open to ideas yet unwilling to tolerate any nonsense. He speaks at length about Turn in the Wound, his latest documentary that debuted at last year's Berlinale and is currently available for streaming on the Criterion Channel. The film draws parallels between the impact of Russia's war on the people of Ukraine and concerts conducted by Patti Smith, in a somewhat unclear but ultimately insightful way. Like many of Ferrara's documentaries—including Mulberry St., Chelsea on the Rocks, and Piazza Vittorio—it extracts emotion from individuals and their surroundings. I was more than eager to converse with him about this film and its myriad themes.
Additionally, I want to mention that Rohmer Fits, an Instagram sensation, and I will be screening Éric Rohmer’s A Summer’s Tale on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. Tickets are available here, and we look forward to seeing you there.
