Trailer for the Japanese dystopian sci-fi drama Happyend

Film Movement has unveiled a poster and trailer for Neo Sora’s Japanese dystopian sci-fi drama, Happyend.

Set in a near-future Tokyo, constantly threatened by devastating earthquakes, the story follows two high school friends, Yuta and Kou, who prank their principal, resulting in an oppressive security system being implemented at their school. This situation leads to a growing conflict in their feelings, prompting them to confront the differences they had never acknowledged throughout their long friendship.

The cast features Hayato Kurihara, Yukito Hidaka, Shirô Sano, Yûta Hayashi, Shina Peng, Arazi, Kilala Inori, Makiko Watanabe, Ayumu Nakajima, Yuta Koga, Motomasa Okui, and Pushim. You can watch the trailer below.

As Yuta and Kou approach graduation in a Tokyo fraught with the imminent danger of earthquakes, they execute a significant prank on their principal one night, resulting in a surveillance system being established in their school. Amidst the oppressive security measures and a deteriorating political landscape, Kou grows increasingly disillusioned with the world, while Yuta remains oblivious. When Kou finds understanding from an impassioned student activist, he begins to awaken politically. Assuming Yuta wouldn't comprehend his emerging interests, Kou starts to distance himself from his friend. For the first time in their enduring friendship, they must face the unexpressed differences between them.

Happyend is set to release in theaters on September 12th.
