KJ Apa is set to portray James Stewart in the biographical film titled Jimmy.

      KJ Apa, known for his roles in Riverdale and The Map That Leads To You, is set to portray Hollywood icon James Stewart in the biopic titled Jimmy. Directed by Aaron Burns (Legacy Peak) and produced by Stewart's daughter, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, the film will tell the story of the legendary actor.

      “I’ve always been a massive fan of James Stewart, so it's a great honor to tell his story,” Apa shared. “As a New Zealander, I have long admired that era of American men who exemplified patriotism, integrity, and a strong sense of duty. It's important for me to give back to a country that has provided so much to me, and what better way to do so than to pay tribute to a man who served it honorably.”

      Kelly Stewart-Harcourt expressed her excitement, saying, “My family and I are thrilled that KJ Apa has taken on the role of my father in this film. KJ's talent, paired with his enthusiasm for the project, will bring great energy and depth to the character.”

      The film's logline states: “Focusing on America’s most beloved actor and the iconic role that rescued him, Jimmy highlights the pivotal moments in Stewart’s life—from winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story to enlisting and becoming a combat pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the outset of World War II. He completed twenty missions over Europe, attaining the rank of colonel by the war's end, only to come home feeling broken and demoralized. Then, the character of George Bailey entered his life…”

      Filming for Jimmy is scheduled to begin in Cork, Ireland on September 1st, with a theatrical release planned for November 2026.
