Timothée Chalamet is set to star in James Mangold's motocross heist movie.
Is Hollywood aiming to recapture the enchantment that nearly secured James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet an Oscar? That seems to be the intention with the new project titled High Side.
Deadline reports that there is a buzz in the industry surrounding a new film package introduced by Chalamet and Mangold, based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira. The agency Sugar23, which represents Oliveira, is spearheading the project, and Chernin Entertainment is also involved as a producer.
This project would bring together the young actor and acclaimed filmmaker once again, following A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic that received eight Oscar nominations. Chalamet earned the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The outlet characterizes the film as a heist thriller. In High Side, "Billy is a former MotoGP racer who is tormented by a career-ending crash and a family legacy of abandonment, yet finds himself drawn back into a world filled with high-speed risks and extreme danger. His estranged brother, who is already being pursued by the FBI, enlists him for a series of bank heists on superbikes. Once a skilled motocross rider, Billy stepped away from the sport due to a devastating accident, and has been managing to care for his addicted father and the family garage. He is taken by surprise when his estranged older brother Cole reappears—just after their father’s passing—with a proposal: to leverage Billy’s skills for something greater: robbing banks."
"Cole gathers a mismatched group, including a woman who becomes Billy’s love interest, and they start executing heists on small-town desert banks with speed and precision. However, as the stakes escalate, Lennox, an FBI agent with a complicated past with Cole, intensifies his pursuit while the crew prepares for their biggest heist: a bank robbery timed with a major motorcycle parade. The climax features high-speed action and emotional twists and turns."
Chalamet is currently reprising his role as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three, which is currently in production.
