Guy Pearce and Jack O'Connell are set to star in Danny Boyle's film about Rupert Murdoch.
As Danny Boyle awaits the opportunity to complete his 28 Years Later trilogy, the Academy Award-winning director is preparing another media mogul biopic, casting Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) and Jack O’Connell (Sinners) in his film about Rupert Murdoch, titled Ink.
After effectively portraying what drove Apple CEO Steve Jobs in his well-received 2015 biopic, Boyle is now shifting his focus to the establishment of the Murdoch Empire. According to Deadline, Pearce will take on the role of the controversial tycoon, while O’Connell will portray Larry Lamb, the executive Murdoch appointed to oversee The Sun newspaper in 1969.
Ink is adapted by James Graham from his play of the same name and is described as an exhilarating cinematic journey about a group of innovators and outsiders who envisioned a new type of news—one that aimed to satisfy public demand and transform the media landscape as we know it today.
The film will detail the ascent of NewsCorp and the enduring competition between The Sun and The Mirror, two of Britain’s prominent tabloid newspapers. Production is set to commence in October.
Pearce recently garnered an Oscar nomination for his role in The Brutalist, while Ink will mark a quick reunion for O’Connell and Boyle following O’Connell's memorable cameo in this summer's 28 Years Later, which sets the stage for Nia DaCosta’s 2026 sequel.
