A new VR game titled Star Trek: Infection has been unveiled at Gamescom 2025.

      VR developers Played With Fire and Broken Mirror Games have announced the upcoming release of Star Trek: Infection, an immersive full-body VR experience set in the iconic Star Trek universe, which will be available on Meta Quest 3 and Steam VR later this year.       In Star Trek: Infection, players will immerse themselves in a psychological and physical nightmare as a Vulcan Starfleet officer undertaking a covert mission on the U.S.S. Lumen. Upon boarding the Federation ship, players will discover that the crew has vanished, leaving behind a sentient and malevolent entity that has infected everything—and now the player themselves.

      As players navigate this eerie environment, they will experience physical transformations and the emergence of new abilities, all while grappling with shifts in their typically composed Vulcan mind. They must learn to manage these mutations, explore the ship, confront the ominous presence, and choose to either accept or resist the infection.

      Key features include:

      - A full-body avatar that players must monitor and care for, allowing the choice to either mitigate mutations or promote their growth.

      - Psychological distress from the Presence, compelling players to confront traumatic memories long buried and shadows that act with a life of their own.

      - Utilizing a tricorder to identify threats, employing a phaser, or opting for stealth with the Vulcan nerve pinch to quietly eliminate foes.

      - Interacting with the ship's tools and workstations using VR hands to physically create items and gadgets.

      Star Trek: Infection is currently under development for Meta Quest 3 + 3S and Steam VR, with a release expected later this year.
