Nicolas Cage will collaborate once more with his Con Air director Simon West for Fortitude, a World War II drama inspired by a true story that centers on a duo of British spies and a double agent who employed deception to shift the balance of war in favor of the Allies.
West is directing from a screenplay by Simon Afram, who is also producing alongside Georgette Turner, Reza Roohi, and Edward Kahl. The film's synopsis states:
With historical input from Joshua Levine (Dunkirk, Blitz), the story highlights the ingenuity of British Army officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll ‘TAR’ Robertson, who orchestrated an intricate series of deception campaigns. These included imaginary armies, counterfeit military gear, and a network of double agents to mislead Nazi Intelligence. One of these operatives was Yugoslavian playboy Dusko Popov, a genuine double agent. He set the stage for James Bond, turning actual espionage into legend, which ultimately influenced Ian Fleming’s literary works.
Cage will be joined in Fortitude by Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), Matthew Goode (Dept. Q), Ed Skrein (Jurassic World: Rebirth), Michael Sheen (Good Omens), Jordi Mollà (Mobland), Art Malik (Man Like Mobeen), Lukas Haas (The Righteous Gemstones), Adrian Topol (Franz + Polina), Emilio Sakraya (Sixty Minutes), Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders), and Sir Ben Kingsley (The Thursday Murder Club).
“We're thrilled to assemble such an extraordinary cast,” Afram remarked. “Their chemistry and depth, combined with West’s direction, transform this narrative into something genuinely captivating and memorable.”
