New Trailer for James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash Signals the Comeback of the Blockbuster Monarch
It’s only appropriate that on the same morning a new trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming feature is released, we also see a fresh trailer from James Cameron. The master of blockbusters makes his comeback this winter with the next chapter in his Avatar series. The third film, titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, features David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin joining the cast alongside Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. As we approach its December 19 release, the complete trailer has now been unveiled.
Cameron also recently spoke to Deadline regarding the franchise and his aspirations to adapt Charles Pellegrino’s book Ghosts of Hiroshima, stating, “We drop the next one December 19th, and we’ll see where it goes from there. I have the scripts, and we’ve done initial designs for four and five and are ready to move forward. However, audience preferences change, and perhaps the movie won’t be exactly what they wish for. Who knows? We’ll find out. We always learn the hard way.”
On the topic of Hiroshima, he mentions, “Currently, observe the enduring animosity that has persisted for half a century between Israel and Palestine. Consider the longstanding hostility between the US and Iran over time. Look at the current global situation with Russia. The doomsday clock continues to tick closer and closer to midnight. Nuclear war is not prominently featured in our current concerns; it’s not on our radar. We often struggle to comprehend it and tend to deny its potential. I aim to create a film that reminds people of the devastating impact these weapons have on humanity and how completely unacceptable it is to even consider their use. I believe Trump is the first president to throw around the notion of ‘My button’s bigger than your button,’ referring to Kim Jong Un. I’m thinking, what? Are you insane? You can’t say that! You can’t say that.”
