First Trailer for Jordan’s Oscar Submission All That’s Left of You, Supported by Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo

One of our favorite films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Cherien Dabis’ *All That’s Left of You*, has recently been chosen by Jordan as its official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. The film is set for an awards-qualifying theatrical release in Los Angeles starting November 28, followed by a roll-out in select cities on January 9. Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo have come on board as executive producers, and the first trailer has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: “Set in the Occupied West Bank during the 1980s, a Palestinian teenager becomes involved in a protest that alters the trajectory of his family’s life. In the aftermath, his mother, Hanan, recounts the story leading up to that pivotal moment. Spanning seven decades, this epic drama chronicles the hopes and struggles of an uprooted family, highlighting not just the scars left by displacement but also their indomitable spirit of survival.”

John Fink noted in his review, “A vast and compelling drama that begins with the establishment of Israel and the forced removal of Palestinian families in Jaffa, ending just two years before the Hamas-led assaults on October 7, Cherien Dabis’ *All That’s Left of You* explores generational trauma on both personal and grand scales. Following the over seventy-year journey of the Hammad family, orange growers displaced from their land in Jaffa in 1948, the film provides insight into decades of Palestinian suffering, rooted in the profound Jewish trauma of the Holocaust. Ultimately, the film evolves from a narrative of anger into one advocating for reconciliation, concluding on a poignant note that respects both generational traumas while presenting a surprising nuance.”
