Ron Howard will direct Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway in Alone at Dawn.
Ron Howard, director of Thirteen Lives and Apollo 13, is drawn to true stories, and he has discovered another fascinating tale with Alone At Dawn, a military drama featuring Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway in lead roles.
As reported by Deadline, the pair has joined the cast of the Amazon MGM Studios film, which is adapted from the New York Times best-selling book of the same name by Dan Schilling and Lori Chapman Longfritz.
Alone At Dawn recounts the story of John Chapman, a Medal of Honor recipient and Special Ops Combat Controller, who sacrificed his life on March 4, 2003, in the early hours beneath a 10,000-foot mountain in eastern Afghanistan to save 23 fellow soldiers. Author Schilling, a combat control technician, will serve as a consultant on the film, while Longfritz is Chapman’s sister.
Howard will direct the project based on a screenplay by Michael Russell Gunn (Designated Survivor), with Amazon confirming that the film will be released in theaters as part of their newly renewed agreement with Brian Grazer and Howard’s Imagine Entertainment.
Driver, a former Marine, is set to portray Chapman, while Hathaway has been cast as the intelligence officer advocating for his Medal of Honor.
