Zach Cregger's Resident Evil features stars from Severance and True Detective.
Already one of the most fascinating films in pre-production, the Resident Evil reboot from Sony Pictures and Zach Cregger is generating heightened interest with the addition of Zach Cherry from Severance and Kali Reis from True Detective to its cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, these two emerging talents will join Austin Abrams, who previously excelled in Cregger’s $265 million hit Weapons, in a fresh horror film based on the long-standing Capcom video game franchise. Twisted Metal's Johnno Wilson has also been cast in the movie.
Following a strategy that has worked for Cregger’s Barbarian and Weapons, details about the plot are being kept secret. However, it has been reported that Cherry will portray a scientist in a hospital in Raccoon City, while Reis will play an ex-military character initially written for a male actor. The specifics of Wilson’s role remain unclear.
Cregger is set to begin filming in October, working from a screenplay co-written with Shay Hatten (known for John Wick Chapters 3 and 4). Their interpretation of the material is said to diverge from earlier Resident Evil adaptations and aims to honor the 1996 game, albeit with an entirely new cast of characters.
THR also revealed some key terms related to the film: hapless courier, mysterious package, mutated creatures, and corporate conspiracy. We'll have to wait until September 18, 2026, to understand their significance.
